Environments for Aging Conference + Expo is the premier event serving the senior living design industry. The annual gathering is produced by the content and education authorities at Emerald X, publisher of Environments for Aging magazine, in association with the AIA Design for Aging Knowledge Community, SAGE, and other association contributors.

EFA offers the latest strategies and ideas for creating functional and attractive living environments that meet the needs of our aging population. During this three-day learning experience, attendees will network with peers while gaining an understanding of proven best practices and new ideas and solutions for delivering effective spaces for senior living.

This conference is the most comprehensive in the industry, offering attendees a multidisciplinary learning event that spans a variety of educational formats. Attendees benefit from access to the latest and best educational content in senior living design, delivered from thought leaders and innovators within the field.

EDUCATIONAL FOCUS

The Environments for Aging Conference + Expo welcomes presentation proposals that respond to the current needs of senior living design professionals; senior living owners/operators and developers; and others supporting the planning, design, construction, and ongoing operation of senior living communities.

Topics of interest for the EFA 2025 program include, but aren’t limited to, the following:

• Affordability, low-income, and middle market considerations

• Project delivery best practices, including cost control initiatives, supply chain solutions, etc.

• New housing models

• Dining and social spaces

• Modular design and prefabrication

• International projects and elder care examples

• Sustainability and resiliency

• Remodels, renovations, adaptive reuse

• Flexibility and community-based aging in place

• Health and wellness

• Technology integration and consumer expectations

• Post-occupancy evaluations and research findings

AUDIENCE

Environments for Aging Conference + Expo draws its audience from many disciplines and different levels of professional experience. Attendees include architects, interior designers, owners/operators, developers, builders, academics, consultants, researchers, students, and product manufacturers/vendors. To best serve this audience, the goal of the conference program is to support a range of knowledge levels, offering foundational to master-class learnings.

FORMATS

The Environments for Aging Design Conference + Expo offers educational content delivery through three formats.

Educational Sessions are one hour in length and classroom style, with at least 45 minutes of speaking and time for Q+A. The attendance in educational sessions may range from 50-150 people. All sessions must qualify for continuing education credits from both AIA and IDCEC.

Roundtable Discussions are designed to provide attendees with focused, yet more informal interactive programming on a specific area of interest. Speakers will open with a brief presentation and encourage group conversation around the topic. Attendance in roundtable discussions may range from 40-80 people and are also one hour in length. All sessions must qualify for continuing education credits from both AIA and IDCEC.

Deep Dive Sessions are two hours in length and support both a classroom and workshop environment, based on the speakers’ goals. These immersive sessions are highly focused and support attendees in unpacking complex topics and walking away with a better understanding of how to implement solutions. Attendance in deep dives may range from 40-80 people. All sessions must qualify for continuing education credits from both AIA and IDCEC.
